About Artist
I am Buryat from the village of Kuyta in Baikal region. I received formal education from the Department of Geography in the Irkutsk State University and informal – from my parents, grandmother and other relatives and elders in the village. As a result, I became able to see and appreciate different perspectives on human-environment relations. Currently I work as a Research Professor at the Department of Geography at George Washington University and conduct research together with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in Alaska and Mongolia. I co-lead an ArtSLInK initiative, focused on convergence of science, arts, and place-based local and Indigenous Knowledge systems.
